A lot of times, people come into the clinic worried about the fact that they’re grinding their teeth. One of the causes can be stress. Sometimes when people are stressed out, they tend to clench and grind their teeth together. Sometimes it’s genetics. Their dad grinds his teeth, they grind their teeth, and their kid grinds their teeth. Sometimes it’s their bite that’s changed, and that can cause some grinding. Sometimes they play sports that put a lot of pressure on their teeth like heavy lifting that can cause some clenching and wear on the teeth.

A lot of people come in and say, “I don’t feel like I grind my teeth but I feel like I did before.” It’s not a simple answer.

Usually, we do have to do a thorough exam, go through your history, see if it’s a medication that you’re on causing it. We will determine if getting a nightguard is an appropriate treatment for you.
