What is Considered a Dental Emergency?

We consider a dental emergency to be any situation that involves pain or discomfort in the teeth, gums, and jaw. Pain from a sudden or a lingering toothache, a fractured or knocked-out tooth, or an accident that involves the teeth and jaw should be treated by your dentist immediately.

At Inglewood Family Dental, we always reserve time in our daily schedule for patients with dental emergencies and do our best to accommodate both existing patients and those that are unable to see their regular dentist promptly. Also, we assist you over the phone and will advise you on how to remain as comfortable as possible until you can be seen by Dr. Arash Ravanbakhsh.

Blow you will feel some of the most common reasons why patients call our South East Calgary Emergency Dental number:

  • Teeth that have been knocked out
  • Trauma, including blunt force, to the teeth, face, or jaw
  • Teeth that have chipped, cracked or broken
  • Bitten lip or tongue
  • A loose tooth
  • Infection from an abscessed tooth or gums
  • Toothache pain
  • a loose restoration, such as a dental crown, filling or bridge
  • Recent dental work that is causing pain or discomfort

To manage some of these common dental emergencies, visit CDA Dental Emergency Management.

Preventing Dental Emergencies

Preventing dental emergencies is possible. Regular dental checkups and cleanings help Dr. Arash Ravanbakhsh identify potential areas of concern that, if left untreated, may cause a dental emergency for you down the road.

For children and adults who play contact sports, wearing a custom mouth guard while playing contact sports also reduced the risk of a dental emergency. Research has shown that a large percentage of dental injuries are sports related and wearing a properly fitting mouth guard can prevent many of these injuries.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency, please call our office immediately at (403) 265-5888 to schedule your visit with Dr. Arash Ravanbakhsh.
