Are you a parent wondering when you should start bringing your child to the dentist? Watch this video by Calgary dentist Dr. Arash Ravanbakhsh, as he provides tips on when to start children’s dentistry and how to prepare your children for their first dental visit.
One of my favorite things to do in practice is working with kids. I enjoy talking to them and I especially enjoy when treatments are successfully completed, because a lot of times the children are scared, and they’ve tried other places and they’re not able to complete treatments.
What you can do to help you child be successful at their children’s dentistry visit is making sure you explain to them what’s going to happen when they come. You want to use terms that make it seem fun and exciting, to get the child excited to come here. You never want to tell them they’re getting needles, or that it’s going to hurt because you don’t want to put any negative connotation on the visit, only positive/happy, so that the child is excited to get here.
Another thing that you might want to do is explain to them what’s going to happen, who they’re going to see, and why they’re going to see them, so that they’re aware that they’re in fact here to be healthy, happy, and get into a routine for life-long dental maintenance.
